the wind beneath my wings

I'm typically described as being pretty damn cynical, something that I don't do much to discourage. I try to take a realistic view of things, and often that means expecting the worst of people (I'm also a political science major in my early 20s and therefore practically required by law to be jaded and bitter unless I have kids and start voting Republican). Deep down though, I'm an optimist, and I live for the times when something gets past my shields of misanthropy and genuinely touches me. The things that do it are weird, like cute cardboard robots or an introspective and emotionally honest rap song, but they help me to cut through the worries and stresses of everyday life. Here's a few more of those things:

Henry Rollins

Holy shit! I just realized, as in literally as I was putting his picture in, that this is who drove the Jeep during Off-Road Tattoo in the first Jackass movie. Awesome.

Henry Rollins embodies everything I want to be. He sang for Black Flag, helping to create and shape American punk music and helped to inspire countless other bands to take their music in different, groundbreaking directions. He was set, it would've been easy for him to just keep doing punk music where he found something close to mainstream success, but he started doing spoken word and stand-up comedy. He campaigns for gay rights and tours for the USO (which shouldn't be unusual). He hosted The Henry Rollins Show (currently on hiatus) on IFC. Henry Rollins is badass, cool looking, brilliant and hilarious, and most importantly, he did this:

It's like he found the words to describe what I felt deep in my heart but could never say.

more to come later, I've got finals I should be studying for.

I love so many things about this post. First, that it reflects the person I know you to be (which is good). Second, that you quoted a Barbara Streisand song in the title, and third that it rips Ann Coulter a fucking new one. I love you!
